Africa
Malawi Gold, Durban Poison
Climate
Highland (Malawi, Swaziland) and coastal (Durban). Equatorial light, strong UV.
Plant morphology
Pure sativa. Malawi Gold flowers 18 to 22 weeks in its homeland. Durban Poison is the fast outlier at 8 to 9 weeks.
Africa gave the western catalog two very different sativa profiles. Durban Poison is the fast pure sativa: 8 to 9 weeks, anise terps, clear head. It became one of the first useful pure sativas for outdoor European growers because of its speed. Malawi Gold sits at the other end: a 20-week central-African sativa with sandalwood and incense terpenes that some collectors consider the most distinctive sativa terp profile of any landrace.
