Terpene Profile

Gas.

gasoline · engine grease · diesel

Gas is what the OG family smells like. It is what Sour Diesel was named for. It is what Chemdawg smelled like when JJ-NYC popped that bag seed in 1991. The petrol-and-grease note has its own subculture and its own purist crowd.

The vocabulary

Gasoline

Sharp, acrid, almost paint-thinner adjacent. Sour Diesel runs heavy here.

Engine grease

The under-the-hood note. Heavier than fuel. Old OG mothers express it strongest.

Diesel

The sharper end of gas. Lemon-acid rind on top. Sour D was the original benchmark.

How gas got here

The gas profile traces back to a Chemdawg bag seed cracked in 1991 from a Grateful Dead show parking lot. By 1996 it had branched into Sour Diesel (NYC) and OG Kush (LA). Every modern cannabis strain that smells like fuel descends from that single seed run.
